The news items reflect events, activities, general information, and news items about Avon Middle School and Avon Local Schools. Results of and information about interscholastic athletics are communicated to the AMS Main Office by the respective sports team coach(es). Sporting events results are then announcedat school and posted via The AMS Morning News.

Attention all Girls interested in playing basketball this season: Official try-outs will be held next Tuesday, October 15th through Friday, October 18th.  8th graders will try out daily from 3:00-4:30 p.m. and 7th graders will be from 4:30-6:00 p.m.  You must be present for all four days of try outs and a current sports physical MUST BE on file through the Main Office in order to try out, no exceptions.  See Coach Cable or Coach Walbom if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you in the gym!
If you are planning on joining Winter Sports Club this season forms are available in the Main Office. On-line sign-ups have started.  
Just a reminder, there is no school tomorrow (Friday, October 11) or Monday, October 14th.
The 8th Grade Purple Football Team moved to 6-1 on the year with a 35-8 win over Amherst. Jakorion Caffey scored 4 touchdowns and Paul Balazay added another touchdown to lead  the young Eagles. Weston Jonke kicked an extra point and Noah Full and Jack Farney caught 2 point conversions passes to round out the scoring. Coaches were extremely proud of the team effort last night. The 8th grade hosts Lakewood next Tuesday for their final game of the year.

The 7th Grade Purple Football Team defeated Amherst 30-8 to move their record to 6-1. Nolan Good ran for 2 touchdowns, threw for a touchdown, threw for 2 extra point conversions and ran for another extra point conversion. Cole Kepner caught 2 touchdown passes and had an extra point conversion. Andrew Falasco threw for a touchdown. Owen Garcia blocked a punt, had a fumble recovery and had an extra point conversion. Jason Gillespie had a fumble recovery while Colin Fales had an interception. Also having good games were Jake Graham, Jack Hricovec, Owen Rittenhouse, Connor Bingham, Aiden Atkins, Matthew Balmert and Addison Hanna. Congratulations Eagles!!!

The 8th Grade Purple Volleyball Team beat Lake in the second round of the SWC tournament on Saturday in 3 sets to face Olmsted Falls in the semi finals. The Lady Eagles played with fierce tenacity through an untouchable defense and upcoming offense but fell just short to grasping the victory—losing in 3 very close sets. The 8th grade volleyball program-Purple & Gold represented our School with Pride. We couldn’t be more proud of you!
The 8th Grade Gold Volleyball Team entered the SWC tournament Saturday and defeated Midview 25-20 and 25-18.  Top servers were Kamryn Danielson and Juliette Chandler with 9 points apiece.  The Lady Eagles were defeated by Westlake in an oddly played match by the scores of 25-19 and 24-26.  Top servers were Hannah Roveda and Kamryn Danielson with 7 and 6 points respectively. The girls had a great season finishing with a 13-3 record and earning the number one seed.  Top setters on the team were Kamryn Danielson, Addie Buckholtz and Molly Drennan.  Top defensive players were Sydney Zurinski, Audrey Lieux, Arah Perry, Kamryn Danielson, Molly Drenik and Maddie Weller.  Top hitters were Kamryn Danielson, Juliette Chandler, Molly Drenik, Hannah Roveda, Isabella Intagliata, Sophia Gerovac and Maddie Weller.  Congratulations Lady Eagles!!

Attention all 7th and 8th grade girls who have signed up or would still like to sign up for Basketball: Please report immediately to Coach Cable's room (139) to pick up tryout information. 
Tonight is our next home Varsity Football game of the year - Homecoming (Avon Eagles vs Westlake Demons). The dress theme for AMS is "Purple & Gold."
  • All AMS students will sit in the stands located on the NORTH side of the field. Students who need to leave before the last part of the 4th quarter can text their parents to verify leaving or have their parents come get them at the stadium's north end.
  • Students must remain in the bleachers during the game. Students will be able to go to the concession stand and use the restroom during halftime. All students are to be back in the bleachers within the first two minutes of the start of the third quarter.
  • Food, beverages, and backpacks/bags are not permitted in the bleacher areas.
  • Those students who fail to comply with these requests will be escorted to their parents and asked to remain under their parents’ supervision during the remainder of the event. 
  • Further violations of the rules and regulations will result in being escorted from the stadium and possible forfeiture to attend future stadium events.
The 7th Grade Gold Volleyball Team defeated Lakewood last night 25-10 and 25-2.  Thea Beran led the team with 23 straight serves in the second set.  Ava Brediger and Brooke Millet led the team offensively. Wish them good luck as they enter the SWC tournament on Saturday, taking on Berea-Midpark.
Starting this week off, the 8th Grade Purple Volleyball team suffered a tough loss to Midview losing in 3 sets. However, they redeemed themselves with a dominating win over North Olmsted to end the conference season with an 11-5 record. Last night the Lady Eagles finished up the week by advancing in the first level of the SWC tournament with a come from behind Victory over Westlake White. They continue with tournament play Saturday striving for a WIN against Lake to advance to the next round!
