Ben Brooks isn’t mincing words about his goals this high school swimming season. The Avon High senior wants to win a Division I state championship in either the 200-yard individual medley or the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Eastern Michigan recruit appears to have the better shot for a state title in the 200 IM, an event in which he finished sixth as a junior in 1:52.51.

Both state champ Tommy Cope of Vandalia Butler (1:47.24) and state runner-up Cooper Hodge of Cincinnati Moeller (1:47.30) graduated. Hodge set the state meet record of 1:46.58 in the semifinals. The two returning state placers that finished in front of Brooks are junior Nicholas Perera (1:49.59) and senior Charles Leibson (1:50.46) of Cincinnati St. Xavier.
