Avon’s defense played bookends and it proved to be enough to stay unbeaten.
After an outstanding first quarter, the host Eagles’ defense was solved by Midview for the second and third quarters. However, Avon’s defense rose again in the fourth quarter along with some key free throw shooting to garner a 46-41 Southwestern Conference win Dec. 16.
“We were a little bit more aggressive in the fourth quarter,” Avon coach Kevin Sapara said. “I think we did a better job of moving the ball (on offense) and playing defense.”
The Eagles (4-0, 3-0 SWC) forced eight Midview turnovers in the first quarter, but by the time the fourth quarter started the Eagles trailed, 35-33.
