AVON — Monday night’s home opener for Avon pitted the always tough Eagles against the perennial contending Bay Rockets, and ironically on what was eclipse day, no one overshadowed anyone else in a hard-fought 2-2 tie.
“I think both teams played very hard, very physical and they showed, both teams showed today,” said Avon coach Attilla Csiszar. “My God, what a battle. But I’ll tell you this Avon program, our girls have heart. Every single one of them will run through a brick wall. They never quit.”
The Rockets (0-0-1) struck first when junior Avery Alexy punched in a nearly point-blank strike off a corner kick at the 3:20 mark of the game. Down relatively quickly, the Eagles then were subjected to a stalwart Rockets defense
