Boys Soccer: Avon defeats SVSM at Maphree Stadium in Columbs

On Friday Oct 13 St Vincent St Mary of  Akron hosted the Avon Eagle Boys Soccer at the Maphree Stadium home of the Columbus Crew.  

 

The match was very one sided from the beginning.  Nine minutes in Avon’s Nicholas Soulas scores on an assist from Trey Grudzien.    Just three minutes later on an assist from Sean Hesketh Avon’s Grudzien heads the ball for another goal.  On a roll, Avon’s Keegan Dawson drops the ball in the box and Tyler Muir brings the score to 3-0.  Two minutes later Grudzien puts in his second header away assisted by defender Noah Lindon.  Avon ended the first half with goal from Jacob Netkowicz delivered from the midfield by Jared Hesketh.  Halftime saw the score 5-0 Avon.  The second half started with Nicholas Soulas threading the ball thru several SVSM defenders to Sean Hesketh who finished for Avon’s 6th goal.  After 10 minutes of possession Grudzien impacted the game again by delivery the ball to Nick Minotti for the tap in goal.  While SVSM keep fighting Avon’s freshman Keegan Dawson was able to score assisted by Drew Whited.  Avon ended the game 8-0 with Grudzien scoring twice with his head and 2 assists.  Avon’s keepers Dylan Morris and Alec Murray combined for 2 saves the entire game, allowing Morris and team to tie the school record of 13 shutouts.  SVSM keep had 9 saves.

 
Avon’s record 10-2-4 enters the conference playoffs in 3rd place.
