AVON VS. WESTLAKE BOYS SOCCER: EAGLES ADVANCE TO DISTRICT FINAL AFTER DOUBLE-OVERTIME THRILLER

Avon soccer fans will remember the name Jared Hesketh for a long time.

That’s because Hesketh struck the game-winning goal in double overtime with 1:17 left to lift No. 3-seeded Avon over No. 2-seeded Westlake, 2-1, at Read Field on Oct. 25 in a D-I Elyria District semifinal.

Heseth took a pass from teammate Trey Grudzien from the right side of the field and ripped the shot from about 20 feet out.

Avon (12-2-4) advances to a district final at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 to face No. 1 seed Olmsted Falls at North Ridgeville High School.

“The best feeling ever,” Hesketh said.

Hesketh knew just how much a win would mean for his Eagles.

“We went through two overtimes and everyone was exhausted,” he added. “We were cramping up and to pull out that win to go to the district finals is just amazing.”
