Avon got off to a shaky start but overcame an ugly first inning to earn its first win of the season in a 7-6 victory over visiting Mayfield on March 31 at Sprenger Stadium.

The Eagles surrendered six unearned runs in the opening half inning of play thanks to a pair of errors over the first two at-bats, and starter Josh Rattay was pulled after 2/3 innings of work.

Undeterred despite an 0-2 start to the season, the Avon relief kept Mayfield (1-2) off the board the rest of the way and trimmed a 6-0 lead to 6-2 before exploding for five runs in the fourth inning to take the lead
