NORTH RIDGEVILLE — All season, Avon has won with defense.
In its biggest match of the year, the Eagles’ offense decided to take over.
Avon had its best offensive performance of the year Saturday, defeating top-seeded Strongsville 6-1 in the Division I Elyria district championship game at North Ridgeville High School.
Nick Minotti scored for the Eagles in the third minute and that was just the beginning for No. 2 seed Avon (14-2-3), which entered the game having scored 36 goals in 18 games.
“We knew coming in we lost last year in the same situation, in the district final, so we were really focused. Having that first goal was really nice,” Nicholas Soulas said.
Soulas made his mark on the scoresheet in the 56th minute, scoring a goal off of a rebounded shot that deflected away from Mustangs goalkeeper Nolan Kellogg to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
