AVON – In a defensive struggle where points seemed hard to come by, it looked like Midview was going to grind away a road victory through three quarters.
But, in the fourth quarter, Avon’s defense held the visiting Middies to just three field goals and 8 points while sinking some huge baskets of its own, leading to a come-from-behind 50-45 Southwestern Conference victory Friday night.
Avon won its second-straight game, improving to 11-5 (8-5 SWC). The win forced a tie with the Middies (9-7, 8-5) in the SWC standings with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
“It was a good win for us,” Avon coach Kevin Sapara said. “Last week was tough for us with (Olmsted) Falls and Avon Lake beating us. But we rebounded this week. It was good to get back on track with a couple of nice wins.
“We’ve got three weeks left — this is the grind of the season. We’ve just got to get back to work tomorrow at practice and try to finish this year strong.”
