EATON TWP. — Juniors Ashlee Torbert and Casey Traine had quite a Tuesday afternoon for Avon.

Torbert homered, doubled twice, drove in five runs and scored four runs, while Traine had four hits and four RBIs as Avon outslugged the Middies 14-10 on a clear, windy day to pick up an important Southwestern Conference win.

The Eagles (8-1 overall, 6-0 SWC) finished with three home runs and six doubles. Midview is 6-3 and 4-2.

Torbert set the tone for the slugfest with a long homer in the first inning that got up in the jet stream to give the Eagles a quick 2-0 advantage. She said it was her best game as a varsity player.

“Going in, we knew Midview would be good, tough competition,” Torbert said. “We had two pretty good games against them last year. We were just ready, I was ready.

“I didn’t think it was going over (the fence) and then it did. I was excited. My heart was pounding.”
