Despite not sending any area football teams to the state championship games in Canton, area Division II and Division III teams were well represented on the All-Ohio teams released Dec. 3, as voted on by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
Avon, the lone area team to make an appearance in the state semifinal landed three offensive starters on the teams. Senior quarterback Danny Zeh and wide receiver Joey Lance were named to the third team, while offensive lineman Joe Svec was named to the first team in his final season as an Eagle.
Zeh was Avon’s starting quarterback until an injury claimed the rest of his season in the teams’ first playoff game against Wooster. The senior put up impressive numbers in his first and only year as the top signal caller for the Eagles, throwing for 1,893 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Lance was the hero of Avon’s regional final against Avon Lake when he broke a run for 58-yards and a score, he followed that up with a 36 carry, 192-yard performance against Massillon in the state semifinal. The senior played a vital role in all three phases of the game for the Eagles.
Svec was the top offensive lineman for Avon’s scary running attack that saw backup Devon Hunter rack up 1,067 yards and 18 touchdowns in seven games. The senior is committed to the University of Cincinnati as a thrower for track and field.
