AMS EXCELS IN PATRIOT PEN CONTEST
Selected eighth graders won the VFW Patriot Pen Contest. The topic was 'What Makes America Great." A special dinner was held for the winners and their families on the evening of Tuesday, January 14 at VFW Post 7035, where students received recognition with certificates and cash prizes:
Advanced District Winners were Eleana Darrock, Cameron Lam, Eli Leder and Justin Schwab. Other awards included: Honorable Mention to Sarah Pomfrey, 3rd Place to Ethen Eibel, 2nd Place to Allison Day, and 1st Place to Jackson Holbrook.
The Winners at the District Level (out of 29 districts in Ohio) were: 2nd place to Eli Leder and 1st place to Allison Day. Congratulations to all our winners; you make Avon Proud!! A special thanks to Mrs. Rom who planned and organized the essay contest along with Mr. Wearsch who assisted.
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
Each month the staff members of Avon Middle School select students from each grade level who demonstrate the following qualities and accomplishments: exemplary citizenship, positive attitude toward learning, academic diligence in the classroom, service to others, and involvement in school activities. The following students have been honored as Students of the Month for JANUARY:

JANUARY ASSET THEME IS FAIRNESS
The Developmental Asset Theme for January is FAIRNESS, defined as "Young people have strong values that allow them to make impartial decisions based on appropriate factors and placing a high value on promoting equality." Descriptive statements include:
