AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Avon Middle School is proud to have hosted following events on our campus: First Lego League Regionals, Spelling Bee Districts and Regionals, Health Fairs, Interscholastic Athletic Tournaments, Kids' Kloset, Avon Basketball Association, Sing for Your Supper, Professional Learning Communities and Trainings, AECPTA seasonal events, Cavaliers Basketball Camp, Greater Cleveland Basketball League, Power of the Pen District Competition, Technology/STEM Summer Camps, Girls and Data STEMinars, and Bowling Green State University Graduate Programs. 

In addition, AMS staff, students, and school groups have participated in the following activities, and events, and opportunities outside the school day:

ACT PRACTICE TEST: Saturday morning, four-hour session in March or April at which students can elect to take a college board entrance examination (American College Testing) with no awarded credit (“the real thing without the sting”); application and fee required (Grades 7-8).

ALL JAZZ NIGHT: Special evening jazz concert occurring in the Spring that includes all brass, woodwind and percussion groups, flavored in traditional American Jazz music; sponsored by the Avon Band & Orchestra Boosters (Grades 6-12).

AVON CANDLELIGHT WALK: Special weekend holiday celebration in December at which the various student choirs typically participate in caroling during this community outreach and tradition; permission slip required (Grades 6-12).

AVON FINE ARTS FAIR: A week-long, district-wide fine arts show presented in March or April at the PAC that features the creative artwork of Avon students with awards and recognition along with musical performances and refreshments for guests and artists (Grades K-12).

BAND A LA MODE: Special Saturday afternoon band concert occurring in February that includes all brass, woodwind and percussion groups; sponsored by the Avon Band & Orchestra Boosters (Grades 5-12).

BAND NIGHT IN THE STADIUM: Friday evening opportunity which Band-8 musicians march and play alongside of the Avon Mighty Eagles Marching Band during the half-time entertainment at a Varsity Football home game in Joe Firment Stadium; parental notification provided (Grade 8).

CHOCOLATE SYMPHONY: Special Saturday afternoon orchestra concert occurring in February that includes all string groups; sponsored by the Avon Band & Orchestra Boosters (Grades 5-12).

COMMUNITY PEP RALLY: Students and staff can participate in the Avon Community Pep Rally in the Joe Firment Stadium behind the Avon Early Learning Center immediately following the annual AHS Homecoming Parade; parents are encouraged to attend (Grades 6-12).

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: Students have an opportunity attend the AHS Varsity Football home games in Joe Firment Stadium where they either sit with parents (west/home bleachers) or with schoolmates in the "AM-Zone" (north-end stadium bleachers), with no food or drinks permitted in the "AM-Zone" bleachers; admission fee required (Grades 6-12).

HOMECOMING PARADE: Student volunteers from Student Council, Builders Club, and / or other approved organizations representing Avon Middle School and participating in the annual autumn AHS Homecoming Parade; permission slip required (Grades 6-8).

MUSIC IN THE PARK: Spring instrumental program that combines regional band and orchestra competitions while including a partial day at Cedar Point; fee and permission slip required.

SING CHILI!: Special Saturday afternoon choral concert occurring in February or March that includes all choir groups; sponsored by the Avon Band & Orchestra Boosters (Grades 6-12).

SPELLING BEES: Second semester, competitive spelling activities that are coordinated through the language arts teachers and include local, district, and national contests. The event is sponsored by the Educational Service Center of Lorain County and The Chronicle-Telegram newspaper (Grades 6-8).

TRILLS AND THRILLS: Spring choral program that combines regional vocal competition while including a partial day at Cedar Point; sponsored by the Choir & Drama Boosters (fee and permission required).

VETERANS BREAKFAST: Autumn community outreach program that invites veterans from local VFW Chapter 7035 to attend a special Veterans Day breakfast provided by Chartwells, Student Council, Jazz Band, and WIRED Strings Ensemble, while also including a brief coordinated program highlighting various clubs and organizations in the school (GR: 6-8).
