CLASS TRIPS 2020-21

FIELD TRIPS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2020-21. THE INFORMATION BELOW DOES NOT APPLY TO THIS SCHOOL YEAR, BUT IS FEATURED FOR PLANNING PURPOSES FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

For academic enrichment and social-emotional development, Avon Middle School provides students the opportunity to participate in class field trips. Each grade level is assigned to a particular theme and activity. These spring class trips are incentive in nature. A flyer will be distributed to students before or directly after the Winter Break that briefly describes the respective trip details along with expectations.
To be eligible to participate, students cannot receive (earn) a Discipline Referral for Out-of-School Suspension, a full-day In-School Assignment, or two Wednesday Schools from the beginning of the second semester till the time of the incentive field trip. Students unable or not qualifying to participate will be provided an alternate assignment at school during the time of the respective trip.
Details about costs, times, arrangments, and other items (such as Parental Consent/Permission) will be available during the third quarter, along with information for students who are in need of financial assistance. Class field trips are for currently enrolled AMS students. Avon Local School District's Student Code of Conduct and pre-announced, appropriate dress attire are to be followed by Avon Middle School students on school field trip.

VeloCity at the Point   Grade Eight

Eighth graders will have the opportunity to participate in an incentive class field trip called VeloCity at the Point - a day and evening excursion to Cedar Point in Sandusky. This spring extravaganza provides eligible students the opportunity to spend a fun-filled day at America’s famous Amazement Park, the "Rock 'n Roller Coaster Capital of the World." Students will have field assignments from their various Core Courses with collected data being applied back at school following the VeloCity trip.
The morning of VeloCity on TBD, students depart the school at 9:00 a.m. via school buses. Entering the park at about 10:00 a.m., staff and students are directed to rendezvous at specific check-in times (i.e. 1:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m.) to assess if there are any health and safety concerns (head chaperones check with First Aid Stations, hourly). This also provides students opportunity to change groups of friends, if they wish. Otherwise, students are on their own and are instructed to walk around Cedar Point with their VeloCity friends (either in pairs or groups) and to enjoy the thrill rides and attractions while working on their class assignments. Students and staff board the school buses at around 8:15 p.m. for the return ride to AMS, The estimated time for students to be picked up at school's north parking lot is 9:15 p.m.
Students can either purchase regular group tickets through the school or use their season passes. It is suggested that students take along enough spending money to cover meals and other personal expenses. Students are responsible for all their personal belongings, along with any carrying money for snacks, meals, arcade games, etc.
Tentative Cost of VeloCity: (1) students who need a park ticket ($45.00 each); (2) students who already purchased a park season pass ($7.50 each).
