AVON LAKE — Avon got all the runs it needed with a
five-spot in the first inning as junior pitcher Tina Clark went the distance allowing just one run with no walks and striking out 12 as the Eagles opened the season with a 10-1 win over Avon Lake on Wednesday in Southwestern Conference play.
“I had first game jitters and I expected to be a little shaky, which happened,” said Clark, who had 11 wins for Avon last year. “They pounded the ball when they got on it, but overall I was really happy with the way I threw today.”
The Eagles had baserunners all day, scoring in all but one inning and leaving 12 runners on base even while scoring in double digits against the Shoregals (0-3, 0-1 SWC) and starting pitcher Lexi Anderson.
