HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: AMHERST GIRLS DEFEND LCAAA TITLE; AVON BOYS RIDE STRONG FINISH TO WIN

AMHERST — There was no shortage of drama at Thursday’s 72nd Lorain County Athletic Administrators Association track meet.

The Amherst girls defended their title by holding off Avon 155-148, while the Avon boys won the last four events to defeat Amherst, 109.5-94.

It was the fourth county win for Amherst’s girls since 2012 and ninth overall dating back to 1980. The Avon boys won the county meet for the fourth time since 2013 and 17th time overall dating back to 1930. Only the Amherst boys have won the county meet more times (19).

Sophomore Taylor Hooks and freshman Alexis Alston were the catalysts for the Amherst girls with three firsts and a second each.

Hook defended her titles in the 100- (12.67) and 200-meter (26.24) dashes and was also a member of the winning 400-meter relay (50.61). She was also second in the long jump (16-3.75).
