BOYS SOCCER: AVON, WESTLAKE BATTLE TO SCORELESS TIE

WESTLAKE — When a soccer team is struggling to find its way, sometimes its the goalkeeper who has to step forward and be the hero.

There were a pair of heroes in Wednesday’s Southwestern Conference match between Avon and Westlake.

Eagles all-Ohio keeper Dylan Morris made 13 saves, many of which involved throwing his body at shots from close range and Demons sophomore keeper Levi Swisher stopped a first-half penalty kick as the two sides played to a 0-0 draw at Read Field.

The result left both teams still in striking distance in the SWC race as Avon moved to 3-1-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the conference, a game behind first-place Olmsted Falls.

The Demons, ranked No. 8 in Division I in the latest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association poll, are now 4-0-4 overall and 1-0-3 in the SWC.
