Avon dominated visiting Midview in the annual Southwestern Conference showdown Sept. 22, winning, 42-21, to remain undefeated and take sole possession of first place in the conference.
Sophomore Nick Perusek had a breakout game for the second-ranked Eagles (5-0, 4-0), rushing for 256 yards and two touchdowns — the first multi-score game of his career — including a 74-yard run on the second play of the third quarter to give Avon a 21-7 lead.
“It was a lot of the line and then I kind of just took off from there and I was gone,” Perusek said of the run. “When I run I kind of just focus in and I don’t even think, my body just kind of does it.”
“Nick Perusek’s not a secret for anyone in Avon,” Eagles coach Mike Elder said. “We’ve been watching him do things like that since seventh grade. He had a great night tonight. … Tonight was Perusek’s night to be explosive.”
