Avon expects success and gets it, winning Comet Invite behind Nolan King’s 74

OBERLIN — With five returning starters in the lineup, it wasn’t a surprise to find Avon on top of the leaderboard Monday at the Comet Invitational at Oberlin Golf Club.

Led by junior Nolan King, who shot a 2-over-par 74, the Eagles won their first event of their season by shooting a 316, topping Strongsville by four strokes.

“They’ve been working hard all summer and we have everybody back so honestly this is what I expected for the first time out,” Avon coach Jeff Stevens said. “They are already in midseason form and ready to go. I’m happy with how we performed as a team but I know we can still do better.”
