Avon pitcher Jessie Dean was nearly unhittable and sophomore catcher Emma Ody blasted a pair of RBI doubles to leads the Eagles to a 10-0 five-inning-win over North Olmsted.
Dean didn’t allow her first hit until two were out in the fourth-inning. North Olmsted catcher Amanda Gilley slapped a line drive that Avon second baseman Ryann Chapman couldn’t handle.
Dean came back to strike out the next hitter to end the game.
Dean struck out nine. At one point she struck out five straight North Olmsted hitters. She issued just one walk.
Dean said she smelled the no-hitter as she took the mound for the fifth inning with a 10-0 lead.
“I was disappointed when I didn’t get it. But it’s not about stats, I just wanted the team to get the win today,” said Dean.
Avon coach Ken Matuszak said Dean has been consistently good all season. “Last time she pitched was on Saturday against Keystone and she only allowed four hits and today just one hit and that came in the last inning. She moved the ball around. She has great spin. She did awesome.”
