High school softball: Avon’s Kayla Dykin returns from injury to shut down Westlake in sectional final

AVON — Almost perfect.

Avon junior Kayla Dykin returned after a three-week absence due to an injury to her pitching hand and looked like she had never been away Wednesday in a 3-0 Division I sectional final win over Werstlake.

Dykin was perfect for six innings before a leadoff walk in the seventh, then lost her no-hitter with two out. But that hardly mattered to Dykin, who was just glad to be back.

“I went to the doctor on Monday, got cleared, had a pitching lesson and here I am pitching after being in a brace for a while,” said Dykin, who had 16 strikeouts to go with one walk. “I really was just looking to hit my spots, hit my location and use my pitches effectively. I was just looking to get back into a groove.”
