2021-2022 Avon Athletic Season in Review

Thank You to the Avon Players, Coaches, Parents and Community for all their support for the 2021-2022 Athletic Year.  Our athletes and coaches worked extremely hard to have one of the most impressive season of all time.   11 Teams won Southwestern Conference Championships, 12, if you include the Boys Lacrosse Team winning their first ever Northern Ohio Lacrosse League Title, 6 District Titles, 1 Elite 8, and 2 State Final 4,  20  Individuals qualified for their OHSAA State Championship, Football went to the Final 4 for the 5th straight season, Boys Soccer made it to the Final 4, and Softball made an OHSAA Elite 8 appearance. High school swimming: Avon sweeps SWC tournament

Paul Heyse The Chronicle-Telegram Jan 30, 2021  WESTLAKE — The 40th annual Southwestern Conference swimming and diving meet had two distinct races Saturday at Westlake Rec. The boys side of the meet was filled with drama as Avon, Avon Lake and Westlake battled it out through nine out of 11 events before the Eagles prevailed. The girls side turned into a runaway as Avon totally dominated. The SWC boys meet was deadlocked at 203 through the 100-yard backstroke. Diving: Avon’s Amanda Socha places eighth at state tournament

Paul Heyse The Chronicle-Telegram Feb 20, 2020  Avon’s Amanda Socha made the podium but was far from satisfied with an eighth-place finish Thursday at the Division I state tournament at CT Branin Natatorium in Canton. A pair of bad dives in the second and 10th rounds of the 11-dive competition prevented Socha from placing as high as second or third. She scored 374.0 points, but was only 14.05 points out of third place and 24.65 points out of second. “It went well, but it probably wasn’t my best meet,” said Socha, a three-time state qualifier. “My 10th-round dive, my reverse …

HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING: SEVERAL AREA SWIMMERS EARN AUTOMATIC BIDS FOR DISTRICT MEET

Feb 8, 2020  Area swimmers took to pools at both Cleveland State and the University of Akron on Feb. 7 and 8 for sectional meets, looking to qualify for the district meet. In the Division II meet in Akron, 2019 Morning Journal girls swimmer of the year Maja Miedza anchored the first-place Bay Rockets 200 medley relay. Miedza placed ninth at the D-II state meet in the 50 freestyle, and 14th in the 100 free. The Rockets’ girls team finished second overall, and the boys team finished 11th.
