Avon's offense has been on a slump in the past three games, as the Eagles scored one goal in that time period.

On Sept. 14, the Eagles' offense came alive when it needed to defeat North Ridgeville, 2-0.

Avon controlled time of possession for the first half, with North Ridgeville relying more-so on counterattacks to try to produce.

Avon controlled the build-up of its plays, but struggled to get in contact with crosses except for one by right wing Matthew Mallcott. He got a touch in from a cross by center midfielder Sean Wilson shortly after a throw-in to take a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute.

"It was nice to score. … It's been like that, where we have been playing pretty well, but have been struggling to find that final piece," said Avon coach Chris Doré. "In soccer, it is clearly valuable. A game that is considered not close, could be 2-0 or 3-0. Every time that you get a chance to score, it's nice, especially when you are having trouble to finding (goals)."

Once the ball went in, Avon felt a sigh of relief as they turned up the pressure, which gave them another chance on goal just before the end of the first half.
