Girls golf: Avon earns final district berth; Avon Lake’s Olivia Tobin and Sarah Quayle advance as individuals

NORTH OLMSTED - There are no trophies awarded at sectional golf tournaments. The only prize is surviving to play another week.

Therefore, Avon's fourth-place finish at Tuesday's Division I sectional at Springvale Golf Course was just as good as a win.

The Eagles shot 372 to earn the final qualifying spot with senior Aubrie Rush leading the way with an 81. It wasn't as good as the 354 Avon shot last week on the same course while winning the Southwestern Conference tournament and well off the pace of Magnificat, which finished first with 303, but it was enough to send them back to next week's district tournament at Brookledge Golf Club in Cuyahoga Falls.

"Coming into today we just wanted to make it out,"Rush said. "We knew there was going to be a lot of competition. It means a lot to me to be going to districts with my team in my senior year."
