AVON-The Eagles didn't do much wrong and Brookside didn't do many things right Tuesday in Avon's 75-29 non-conference win.

A Nolan Waechter 3-pointer gave the Cardinals (2-1) a 3-2 lead at the 6:17 mark of the first quarter. It would be a long while, 9:42 of playing time, until Brookside scored again.

Avon (1-0) went on a 22-0 run to take control, blowing out to a 24-3 lead and ending any hopes of a Cardinals' win before halftime.

The Eagles led 40-13 at halftime and 58-22 at the end of the third quarter.

"They were able to do whatever they wanted," Brookside coach Larry Babics said. "We did not compete in anything. We were not good defensively, we don't make open shots, we don't make free throws … then we get pushed around and we don't push back.

"That's what you end up with. We're not a very mentally tough team and we're not a physically tough team. This is what you get."

Avon shot 53.4 percent from the floor compared to 20.9 percent for the Cardinals. The Eagles won the rebounding battle 47-19 and turned the ball over nine times to Brookside's 16.

"I just complimented my guys," Avon coach Mike Fitch said. "They were mentally tough and executed the scouting report."

Junior Nate Farley led the Eagles with 13 points and 16 rebounds, both game highs.

"That's who Nate Farley is in our mind," Fitch said. "We've been seeing it since last year when he was at the JV level, and at the end of the year when he started playing a lot of varsity.
