2021-2022 Avon Athletic Season in Review

Thank You to the Avon Players, Coaches, Parents and Community for all their support for the 2021-2022 Athletic Year.  Our athletes and coaches worked extremely hard to have one of the most impressive season of all time.   11 Teams won Southwestern Conference Championships, 12, if you include the Boys Lacrosse Team winning their first ever Northern Ohio Lacrosse League Title, 6 District Titles, 1 Elite 8, and 2 State Final 4,  20  Individuals qualified for their OHSAA State Championship, Football went to the Final 4 for the 5th straight season, Boys Soccer made it to the Final 4, and Softball made an OHSAA Elite 8 appearance. Avon won nine bouts on its way to a 48-27 win, with the biggest win of the night coming from 145-pound senior Ethan Sear. Sear overcame a 5-1 deficit with a pair of third-period takedowns to defeat Comets junior Zach Machesky 9-7 in overtime. He’s been peaking all year. The Midview senior heavyweight remained perfect this season while winning his second consecutive Southwestern Conference title by pinning Avon junior Mason Bingham in 43 seconds at the SWC Tournament. In the semifinals, Bucknavich pinned Olmsted Falls junior Jerry White in 1:15. The jump from middle school to high school wrestling feels like trying to clear the Grand Canyon for many athletes, but it hasn’t been much more than a hop for Avon freshman Cael Saxton.
