ELYRIA - Avon took aim at the back of the net and record book Wednesday when it opened Southwestern Conference play at Elyria.

The Eagles scored five times in the first 21 minutes and by the time the final whistle sounded eight different players made their mark on the scoring column in a 9-1 victory.

Sophomore Brock Harman, who scored in the third and 11th minute, was the only player with two goals for Avon, which improved to 4-0.

"We were just playing the way we've been playing, taking shots quick and moving the ball," said Harman, who has three goals this season. "I felt like we were playing really well as a team and everything was connecting."

Junior forward Gabe Kitchen, Avon's leading scorer, added an unassisted goal in the 10th minute and later assisted on a goal by sophomore Mark Dushaj, as the Eagles built a 6-0 halftime lead.

"This win shows our improvement from last year," Kitchen said. "We're playing well and moving the ball up top. It's really the ball movement to get opportunities to score."

After only scoring 20 goals during the 2022 season, the Eagles have already scored 17 times over their first four games.
