Avon 138-pound wrestler Mason Fitch was looking to make it a perfect 4 for 4 in his high school career Feb. 25 in making the district tournament.

Things wouldn't be that simple at the Division I sectional at Midview, as Fremont Ross' Jayce Frymire, the runner-up in the weight class, bested Fitch by an 11-0 major decision.

Now the senior had to get through the consolation bracket, sometimes known as the "blood round" to punch his ticket to Perrysburg and complete the quadfecta, taking on Toldeo St John's Jesuit wrestler Conner King. Nothing is ever a guarantee in the blood round, where one loss could have ended Fitch's career.

The senior took care of business, and earned his fourth straight trip to the district tournament with a 13-0 major decision, kept his shot at the state tournament alive and placed third at sectionals with an 8-1 decision.

"Yeah, I'm very blessed," Fitch said following his match. "I've had some amazing coaches that have really helped me to get where I am right now, so I'm very happy."
